Scouten White Cedar is your source for
quality white cedar lumber at reasonable prices.
White cedar is one of the most decay-resistant woods in North America, so it lasts for decades and is perfect for a huge range of outdoor structures, such as decks, docks, fences, sheds, barns, pergolas, raised garden beds, picnic tables, saunas, chairs, rockers, and verandas. It is also such a beautiful wood that it is used extensively for indoor paneling and wainscoting.
We bring in white cedar logs, harvested in Ontario, by the truckload. We cut the logs into various sized boards using a Wood-Mizer LT15 electric band saw, and use a Silver moulder to change the rough boards into finished fence board, deck board, tongue and groove, channel board, balusters, etc
To meet increasing demand, we have brought our second LT15 sawmill on line, and have significantly increased our output of sawn boards.
We produce a wide range of standard sizes, in lengths up to 16 feet, and can also cut to your specifications.
Because we are owner-operated , we care about our business and our customers. We will do our best to give you excellent quality white cedar lumber, when you want it. Since our home is adjacent to our mills and storage areas, our hours of operation can be quite flexible. Because our overhead costs are lower than those of larger stores, you will find our prices very competitive.
Owner/Operators
Scouten White Cedar is owned and operated by the team of Larry and June Scouten. We both spent over 30 years as high school science teachers at South Carleton High School in Richmond, while also operating a beef farm and raising three children. Since selling our cows and much of the farming equipment weeks before the arrival of mad cow disease, we have retired from teaching and gradually got into the cedar lumber business.
Our experiences in teaching and farming have left us with a variety of skills, and the strong desire to do a good job satisfying our customers.
We find working with cedar very enjoyable, since it is such a beautiful, long-lasting and easy to work with wood. We feel that eastern white cedar has many advantages over western red cedar, and perhaps not everyone is aware of white cedar's potential.
We would like to thank our customers for their support, and for passing our name on to friends and relatives.

We are proud to display the
Ontario Wood logo. This shows that all our white cedar lumber is harvested in Ontario. By selecting Ontario-grown white cedar, you are supporting Ontario's economy and helping to provide jobs in Ontario for the people who work in forestry, one of Ontario's great natural resources.
